EU project helps Anoto in Japan

Publicly registered Anoto Group AB, based in Lund, Sweden and member of Øresund IT, has been selected for a project focusing EU efforts on Japan. The project is coordinated by the EU Gateway Programme, and Anoto is the only participating Swedish company.
Anoto is going to showcase its digital pens which enables fast and reliable transmission of handwritten text into a digital format. The aim is to attract partners from the health- and medical technology industry in Japan.

During the past year Anoto has done similar partner recruitment in Italy, France and Sweden, mainly with help from the Swedish Export Council. Anoto already has an office in Japan, however; this does not decrease the benefits of participating in the project which is funded by the EU.

- This shows that we are serious with our business on the Japanese market. They have a similar issue as in Sweden with a large group elderly inhabitants. Our goal is to gain acknowledgement and market share for our solutions specifically targeted at this group, says Ebba Åsly Fåhraeus who is responsible of Sales and Marketing with Anoto.

Anoto recentely left the Ideon Science Park in Lund and has moved into BTJ's former offices, because of the company's need for a bigger and more business appropriate premises.

- Ideon has a nice and creative environment, but because we are mostly international minded with our contacts, we have not collaborated that much with the other companies at the Ideon facilities, says Ebba Åsly Fåhraeus.

Anoto's sales during the first two quarters of 2009 almost doubled compared to last year and rose to 107 mil. SEK (approx. 10.5 mil. €). Ebba Åsly Fåhraeus says that the recession has not affected the company very much.

- We have n ot been affected that hard by the downturn, but we do feel how decision processes tend to be longer with some of our clients and that purchasing is often postponed, she says.

Co-location & trade fairs

A challenge for the future of the BSR region ICT industry is to give a joint communication impact when our businesses travel around the world. An ambition from all the different cluster organisations is to co-localize enterprises from each region at trade fairs.

Women Leadership

We face a future with great lack in personnel in the ICT industry in most of the BSR regions. As an industry we must use the full potential of the talent pool and start attractive more women to our industry. A gender balanced workplace open a more creative atmosphere and open the door for better products and services for end-users.
